Amateur Status CFB Top 25

(Week Eight)

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (7-0)
Even on a day of upheaval, the Tide rolled rather easily against Arkansas.
2. Oregon Ducks (7-0)
Oregon, got a win against Washington State, but I can't disagree more with defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti and his criticism of the Cougs for throwing the ball when they were losing. Go home Nick. You're drunk. Apparently, the Ducks are starting to expect teams in the Pac-12 to just lay down. You don't criticize a team for refusing to stop passing when THEY ARE LOSING!!!!
3. Florida State Seminoles (6-0)
Who knew that the ceiling could be this high for the Noles? There has not been a more impressive win in college football this entire season than their dismantling of previously unbeaten Clemson.
4. Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0)
Bucks quietly almost lost to Iowa, but their record is still loudly unblemished.
5. Missouri Tigers (7-0)
Mizzou's blessed run through the SEC continues. After taking out crippled teams from Georgia and Florida, the Tigers get South Carolina, who will be playing without their starting QB Connor Shaw.
6. Baylor Bears (6-0)The Big 12 is weak, but the Bears are making it look weak and that's really all they can do until they start running into the top tier of their schedule.
7. Miami Hurricanes (6-0)
Miami didn't look their best against North Carolina, but ugly wins count for a lot during a week like the one we just had.
8. Clemson Tigers (6-1)
Wow. I have no words for the ass beating that was laid on the Tigers.
9. Stanford Cardinal (5-1)
The Cardinal bounced back in a major way by knocking off UCLA. I still can't see this edition of the Cardinal hanging with Oregon later this year.
10. Auburn Tigers (6-1)
The Tigers slayed the giant that is Johnny Football, and have officially made the Iron Bowl the potential game of the year in the SEC.
11. Virginia Tech Hokies (6-1)
Bye week for the Hokies, and a game against Duke up next. Life is good.
12. Oklahoma Sooners (6-1)
The Sooners got a gift from their schedule with Kansas being fodder for a bounce back game.
13. Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-0)
Tech continues to win as they await top competition later in their schedule.
14. Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-1)
A very ordinary score, but a dominant performance for the Cowboys against a TCU team that has underachieved this season.
15. LSU Tigers (6-2)
Ole Miss has had a great defense all year, but their offense finally showed up in a big game and LSU got caught slipping on a wacky Sunday.
16. Texas A&M Aggies (5-2)
No one banked on Gus Malzahn being able to solve the riddle of Johnny Football, but the Heisman front runner may have lost much more than a football game over the weekend.
17. South Carolina Gamecocks (5-2)
Connor Shaw is hurt again, and Mizzou's defense awaits next weekend. Is there going to be anyone left to play Alabama in the SEC Championship game?
18. UCLA Bruins (5-1)
The Bruins had an excellent opportunity to get a quality win against Stanford, but they came up short and are now in the murky waters of having one loss.
19. Fresno State Bulldogs (6-0)
Dawgs still on cruise control...but they are competing head to head with NIU every weekend.
20. North Illinois Huskies (7-0)
Jordan Lynch's incredible offensive statistics may be the factor that can swing the pendulum in the human polls to jump NIU over Fresno State. A quarterback rushing for over 300 yards is something that belongs on a national stage.
21. Michigan State Spartans (6-1)
No offensive fireworks for Sparty, but the defense pitched a perfect game against lowly Purdue.
22. Michigan Wolverines (6-1)
I'm not sure if I'm more impressed by the 63 points that were scored by the Wolverines, or the 47 points that were given up to Indiana.
23. Oregon State Beavers (6-1)
The Beavers have finally made it back to relevance after losing to FCS program Eastern Washington in week one. The other OSU is now 4-0 in a treacherous Pac-12.
24. UCF Golden Knights (5-1)
The Golden Knights now have an easier road to the BCS than anyone else in the country.
25. Louisville Cardinals (6-1)
At the beginning of the season, I thought Louisville would waltz to the national title game, and Teddy Bridgewater would runaway with the Heisman. Teddy Heisman is now Teddy Who Cares, and the Cards will be lucky to end up in the Gator Bowl.
